Since I got my Subaru Legacy (III) two years ago, I have been registering the fuel consumption quite closely. Yesterday I crossed the point of using 5000 litres of fuel cumulatively. This has cost me about € 7500 and brought me over 62000 km. These figures result in an average fuel cost of 0,12 €/km and 10,14 €/day. Furthermore given that burning one litre of 'petrol' results in approximately 2,3 kg of CO2, I have generated >11500 kg of CO2. That is over 136x my personal mass in two years! In fact it is almost my own mass of 84 kg per average filling up of the tank (ca. 38 litres). This also gives 185 g/km on average; considerably less than the 215 g/km the government claims my car would produce.
Having an average consumption of 8,04 litres/100km is not bad for a 1280kg MY 2000 car with AWD. Certainly not with all those high speed Autobahn kilometers between CZ and NL. Did a record of 7,5 hrs yesterday for the 900km it takes between Mechenice and Bennekom. That is 120 km/h average. I fear the day when the German government in its wisdom will decide to enforce nationwide the 120 km/h speed limit they already have near many cities.
To all the hippies pointing at the CO2 emissions I just described: have a close look at the environmental impact of your muesli mobile for toxicity and full life cycle energy footprint. EVs might seem promising, but currently it still they cause far more harm to the environment than conventional internal combustion engine powered vehicles.
